In 1944 George Morse bought the building, opened ‘The Mitten Factory’ and began making oven mitts, slippers and other quilted items. George’s wife Mary kept a small pet monkey named Rocco that delighted visitors and workers alike.
Eventually the factory closed, and was purchased by Donald and Virginia Delaney.
The Delaney’s ran an antique store; and in 1984 they leased the first floor of the store to The Friends of Eastham COA to open a thrift shop.
The Thrift Store building was purchased by the Town of Eastham in 2022 as a historic site. The Town currently leases the bottom of the building to The FRIENDS for the Thrift Store.
